With this option, you can have day trips to various cities and attractions. Excursions such as Mount Jungfrau, Mount Schilthorn, Golden pass train to Montreux, visiting the capital city of Bern, visiting Lucerne, Mount Titlis and Engelberg can be done from Interlaken and surrounding villages. This is preferred by many travellers as this avoids packing and unpacking of luggage and hopping from one city to another with luggage in trains and buses. But this option has a disadvantage as you need to return to your base every day even though you like another destination or you are very tired at the end of the day. As Swiss travel pass allows unlimited travel in Switzerland there is no travel cost associated while returning back to base town.

ii] Stay 2 to 3 nights in different regions of Switzerland.  

This is a preferred option when you are staying for more than 6 days in Switzerland. Here you can stay in central Swiss for 3 nights and another stay can be in North Swiss [Lucerne, Bern, Engelberg, Zurich] or Southside such as Montreux, Gstaad, Geneva, Zermatt, Lugano etc. This will allow you to enjoy the flavours of various regions of Switzerland. But in this option, you need to pack and unpack your luggage and also need to carry luggage through public transport such as trains and buses from one place to another. Please note transfer by PVT car with driver is very expensive in Switzerland and the Swiss transport system is very comfortable, punctual and efficient.

Peak season rates are very high in touristy places like Interlaken, Lucerne and Montreux. If you wish to save on cost then stay in nearby villages such as Grindelwald, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, Beatenberg near Interlaken. Engelberg or outskirts of Lucerne also will save your money. Cities like Bern or hotels near Zurich airports are budget-friendly.

Saving of money comes with extra travel time. You need to know connecting bus timings, frequency of buses and the last bus to your accommodation. Staying near the railway station is always recommended but you should know the last train timings. Staying in Engelberg saves a good amount of cost and its a very scenic village with Indian restaurants as well. But, it takes an additional 1-hour train ride one way to reach Lucerne city. For all sightseeing except Mount Titlis, you need to arrive at Lucerne and then take trains to respective destination.  Staying in Beatenberg also saves a good amount of cost compared to hotels in Interlaken. Interlaken to Beatenberg is 20 mins bus ride but bus frequency is limited and you should know the last bus from Interlaken or else you need to take a taxi which will be very costly. Thus you should know all pros and cons of booking hotels or apartments which are not centrally located.

Most of the apartments are located in the countryside offering excellent views and surroundings. Apartments and chalets are equipped with a kitchenette. Please note they do not offer any breakfast or meals and services available are very limited and that is the reason for their low cost. Most of the apartments have minimum stay conditions therefore they are recommended when you wish to stay at one place and wish to explore other destinations as day trips. You should opt for an apartment or chalet when you are looking for countryside experience and wish to save money. You must know the limitations as well.
